"Transported away" Mikeandmary's photos around St Laurent, French Guiana

One of the men from the ferry came round and actually apologised for their behaviour, which was most unexpected. We took a walk around some of the town and did some shopping otherwise that was it. 24th - We did a bit more of a walk around the town today, the area is called Little Paris and was. As well as still is the main administrative centre of the town. The area we were walking was built around 1900 and has such buildings as the original Customs office and Post Office, now the tourist office. We saw the original dock where the prisoners landed, original wardens houses, various office buildings, old courthouses and the largest property, the original house for the director of the prison. Most of the buildings have been re-furbished and are in fine condition since they are still in use although for different reasons today. We still have more to see but are saving that for tomorrow. 25th- As we said this morning we took a bit more of a walk around the town they are busy at the moment refurbishing a lot of old warders houses and office buildings so next year or so it will all look like new. After lunch we took the tour around the transport camp, this was all in French but we had managed to get a small leaflet in English which explained some of it. The prisoners landed at the quay ...
